Rackley, Walker lead Cooper past Van Alstyne

COOPER — Landon Rackley and Tommy Walker scored 16 points and 12 points, respectively, to power the Cooper Bulldogs to a 48-37 victory over Van Alstyne on Friday.
Cooper led 12-2 after the first quarter and 25-11 at the end of the first half. Van Alstyne cut the deficit to seven points at the conclusion of the third quarter, but the Bulldogs held on to the lead to preserve the victory.
Cooper is scheduled to host Quitman at 7:30 p.m. Monday in its first District 13-2A game of the season.

Prairiland 63, Cumby 61 (OT) (B)
PATTONVILLE — Tanner Connot poured in a game-high 29 points for the Prairiland Patriots as they escaped with a 63-61 overtime triumph over the Cumby Trojans on Friday.
Prairiland (6-8) faced a seven-point deficit at halftime but ended the third quarter with a four-point lead over Cumby. Cumby battled back to tie the game at the end of regulation. The Patriots then made the final push at the end to win the game.
Brandon Graham added nine points for Prairiland, while Steven Ruckman netted eight points and Todd Fendley scored seven.
Prairiland is scheduled to travel to face James Bowie at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

BOGATA — The No. 6 Class A state-ranked Detroit Eagles took a slight lead early and held on to it to the end as they earned a 53-47 win over the Rivercrest Rebels on Friday.
Detroit (13-4) led by two points at the end of the first quarter and went on to outscore Rivercrest in two of the game’s final three quarters.
Deon Patt led the Eagles with 29 points and Anthony Eddins scored 15 points. Rivercrest was led by Michael Strunc’s 15 points. Kyle McCuller added 11 points.
Neither Detroit nor Rivercrest are scheduled to return to the court until after Christmas. Detroit is set to host No. 4 Class A state-ranked Bland on Monday, Dec. 28. Rivercrest is set to compete in the Leonard Basketball Tournament, which also begins Monday, Dec. 28.

COOPER — Commerce began with an 18-0 scoring run and never looked back en route to a 47-24 win over the Cooper Bulldogettes on Friday.
Raven Massey led Commerce with 22 points and April Neal scored 14 points.
Cooper (7-8) was led by seven points from Tiffany Roberts. Mariah Williams and Amber Adams scored four points apiece. Darneisha Franklin and Jacey Ingram added three points apiece.
Cooper is scheduled to host Quitman in a District 13-2A clash at 6 p.m. Monday. The Bulldogettes are currently 1-1 in district play with a win over Como-Pickton and a loss against Caddo Mills.
• Cooper’s junior varsity girls defeated Commerce 31-12, while Cooper’s freshman team earned a 15-10 victory over Commerce.
The Bulldogette JV team was led by Lainey Huie’s 11 points. Donika Reynolds scored six points and Lanie Tatum scored five points. The Bulldogette freshman team was led by Raven Harrison’s four points. Logan Williams, Shelby Wicks and Jade Wiley scored two points apiece.

SULPHUR BLUFF — The Roxton Lady Lions used a 14-2 scoring run in the first quarter to coast to a 51-46 win over Sulphur Bluff on Friday.
Roxton’s leading scorer was Kemia Franklin, who had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Chelsea Hinton and Jorden Mills scored 11 points apiece and Mills also had six assists. Erica Savage had 10 rebounds.
Roxton (12-4) is scheduled to host Miller Grove on Dec. 29.

ATLANTA — Joe Sigler’s third-ranked Clarksville Blue Tigers settled for third place honors in tournament action for the second straight week Saturday as Clarksville claimed a 59-50 win over the Arkansas High Razorbacks in the third annual Atlanta Basketball Tournament.
One week ago, the Tigers defeated New Boston for the third-place trophy at the New Boston tournament.
Clarksville (10-2) was defeated on Friday night by host Atlanta, 53-49, forcing Sigler’s squad to play in the third-place game.
In Saturday’s game, Clarksville opened with a 10-0 scoring run before ending the first quarter with a 16-12 lead.
A 3-pointer by Keyondrian Harris, an H.B. Rosser steal and layup, followed by Gary Moore’s inside bucket extended the advantage to 31-17 with 4:24 left in the half. The Tigers moved to the intermission leading 37-28.
Baskets by Jarrian Roberts and Moore late in the third quarter sent Clarksville into the fourth leading 49-35.
Arkansas High drew to within 49-46 with 4:26 left in the game, but Clarksville senior guard Demontrae Scales scored the next six points of the contest to push the Tigers advantage to 55-46 with 2:07 remaining in the game.
Moore recorded another double-double as he scored a game-high 18 points and hauled in 13 rebounds. He was followed in scoring by Scales’ 12 points. Roberts canned nine points and Rosser added eight.
Roberts was also named to the All-Tournament Team following the Tigers victory.
Clarksville is scheduled to open play in the Sherman Holiday Tournament on Monday Dec. 28.
