BELLS — Chisum gave up a first-quarter touchdown to the Bells Panthers Friday night, but that was about all the Mustangs did wrong as they pounded the Panthers, 49-6, to move to 2-0 on the season.
Chisum gained 521 yards total offense, while the defense allowed only 127 total yards.
“It was a great job of the kids coming out ready to play. From the word go, we played faster than we’ve played this year,” Chisum coach Don Hasley said. “We really had a lot of emotion as a group and played well as a team. It was just a great team effort.”
Mustang quarterback Sloan Moss amassed 209 total yards, including a game-high 116 yards rushing on only six carries. Moss put the Mustangs on the scoreboard first with a 10-yard run in the first quarter.
Chisum senior quarterback Jeremy Eddington had his usual big game as he rushed for three touchdowns and caught his first-ever touchdown pass, an 85-yarder from Sloan Moss. He also threw touchdown pass to Tyler Jeffery, had a two-point conversion run, and finished with 264 yards total offense.
T.J. Brisco rushed for 70 yards, while Mason Justiss scored Chisum’s final touchdown and finished with 40 yards rushing.
The Mustangs had only one turnover in the game, while the Chisum defense forced two Bells miscues.
Junior linemen Kyle Hasley, Landon Smith and and Stephen North were beast up front as they wreaked havoc on the Panthers’ offense all night.
“The entire defense played great, but those three guys stepped up their game. They made a lot of things happen all night,” coach Hasley said.
The Mustang defense recorded nine tackles for loss and two sacks in the game.
North recorded nine tackles, including two tackles for loss. Hasley had six, including four solos, three tackles for loss and a sack. Smith also had six tackles, including a tackle for loss and four solos.
Senior lineman Aaron Arnold had six solos and a tackle for loss, while Linebackers Brad Gann and Brian Glover had six and five solos, respectively, while linebacker Kolton Porter had five tackles.
Chisum plays its first home game of the year Friday, Sept. 11, when Honey Grove comes calling. The Warriors (1-1) got the first win Friday, when they beat Wolfe City, 19-13.
