La Quinta completes sprinkler system

Published November 3, 2009

Problems with the sprinkler system and fire alarms at La Quinta Inn & Suites forced city officials to close the hotel late last week, but hotel officials yesterday said they will be back in business as soon as the city inspection is complete and a Certificate of Occupancy is issued.

“Officially, whatever needs to be done is done. I told the workers nothing should be missed. It is now up to the city to say yay or nay, to say if it’s corrected,” Pat Pathak, general manager of La Quinta, said Monday.

The hotel at 3205 NE Loop 286 was shut down by the City of Paris Thursday due to safety issues regarding the sprinkler system and fire alarm.

“I didn’t want any misunderstanding about this. I’m glad he (the fire marshal) came and talked with the company about what should be done. They told me they did more than what was required. I told them to use a fine-tooth comb and get things done. We’re now waiting for the fire marshal. I hope they hurry up,” Pathak said.

Pathak said he hired a Dallas company to work on the system as there are no local contractors who could handle the job. They worked over the weekend in order to complete the project.

The fire alarm was inspected by Advantage Fire Alarm, a local company.

“They inspected the alarm and told me they will tag it when the sprinkler system is done. That was done a long time ago,” Pathak said.

“Safety issues are what they are worrying about, there are none left,” Pathak said.

La Quinta Inn & Suites in Paris is a four-story, 71-room facility which opened in January 2008 after two years of construction. The hotel has 20 employees.
