Powderly man dies in Choctaw Co. wreck

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Randy Wayne Johns, 55, of Powderly was killed shortly after 11 p.m. Friday, when the 1996 Chevrolet he was driving swerved into oncoming traffic for unknown reasons. Johns’ vehicle then swerved back into the proper lane, but was unable to avoid colliding with a 2006 Nissan driven by Lauren Marie Larres, 18, of Elgin, Okla. The two cars struck left front to left front.
Both drivers were pinned in the wreckage and had to be freed from the wreckage by members of local volunteer fire departments using extrication equipment. Johns was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple injuries to the head, trunk and extremities.
Larres was transported from the scene via helicopter to St. Michaels Hospital in Texarkana with injuries to the head, trunk and extremities. She was listed in critical condition.
Christopher Lynn Haley, 30, of Arthur City was a passenger in Johns’ car. He was transported to Wadley Hospital in Texarkana in stable condition with head, arm, leg and trunk injuries.
A passenger in Larres car, 18-year-old Jordan James Denton, of Ponca City, Okla., was flown to Parkland Hospital in Dallas with head, trunk and leg injuries. He was listed in critical/stable condtion.
According to OHP reports, all of the victims were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision, and the road conditions were noted as clear and dry. The reporting officer, Trooper Darrell Wofford, noted that alcohol may have been involved, but no specifics were given.
Services for Johns are pending with Starrett Funeral Home in Paris.
