Unauthorized videos land C’ville man in jail

Published October 22, 2008

CLARKSVILLE — A 41-year-old Clarksville man remains in Red River County Jail facing several counts of improper photography and indecency with a child.

Bonds on the several counts total more than $50,000.

William Cooper was arrested at his home near a Clarksville school earlier this month after videotapes were turned in to the police department showing women and children Cooper allegedly taped while they were unaware he was filming them.

The videotapes allegedly show women and children at an elementary school and at Clarksville High School.

Clarksville Independent School District superintendent Pam Bryant sent letters to parents advising them of the videotapes of female teachers and students and ensuring them the taping was unauthorized and not allowed on school campuses.

Bryant said the schools have raised their awareness since the videotapes were discovered and are keeping a closer vigil on school campuses as the students arrive and leave.

Red River County and District Attorney Val Varley said the investigation is continuing into the indecency with a child charges.
