Oleta LaVada Jones

HUGO, OKLA. —Oleta LaVada Jones, 87, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009.

Funeral services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1 at the First Assembly of God Church with Bro. Bill Stone officiating. Interment is in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, from 6-7 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel.

She lived in the area all her life, marrying Leonard Jones on Sept. 7, 1938 in Hugo. They were prominent business owners in the community, first owning several Gulf stations in Hugo. The couple owned Jones Appliance and were the first Frigidaire franchise in this area. She also worked at Sherman Shoes downtown.

Her true love was working with the Choctaw Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in the gift shop. She also gave of her time by volunteering in the Frisco Museum. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church and The Red Hat Society. She loved to keep busy and was often found using her hands to create many things. But the one thing she is known for is her potato bags.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987, and her parents.

She is survived by two sons, Bob Jones and wife, Linda, of Hugo and Rick Jones and wife, Kaye, of Celina; two daughters, Pat Poe and husband, Don, of Hideaway and Sue Cox and husband, Arlie, of Garland; three sisters, Vera McClure of Hugo, Alice Wheeler of Rattan, Okla, and LaVella Robison and husband, George, of Hugo; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family has asked in lieu of flowers donations be made to Choctaw Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Sinclair Scholarship Fund, ATTN: Gift Shop, 1405 E. Kirk Rd. Hugo, OK 74743 580-317-9500.
