The Lamar County Chamber of Commerce embarks on a new era this fiscal year with the appointment of a new executive director, Mindy Moree.
She was named at a special meeting Thursday with 13 of the 23 board members and four of the five executive committee members present at the Community Room of the chamber’s Depot location. The board received and accepted the recommendation of Moree for the position from a search committee composed of Jon Landers, Michael Novak, Ronny Bolton, Steve Keywood and Patrick Graham.
“We looked at over 40 applications from all over the United States,” Landers said. The applications were gathered mostly from postings on Chamber of Commerce Web sites and through a listing in The Paris News.
The committee culled applicants who had no previous chamber experience. Of the 40 applicants, there were 10-12 with previous experience and eight with significant experience. Committee members held telephone interviews with six people and face-to-face interviews with two.
“It was a rigorous interview process,” Landers said.
“The decisions were tough, too,” Keywood added.
“The committee was unanimous in recommending Mindy Moree,” Landers said.
The process began the first part of October.
“We still need to discuss salary and options, which will be well within the chamber budget,” said Kenny Dority, board chairman. The executive director will not have a contract, and will be considered an at-will position.
Moree was notified of the position during the meeting.
“I have some good news and some bad news,” Dority said to Moree. “We elected you unanimously as recommended by the search committee. That’s the good news. The bad news is, now you’ll have to put up with us.”
Moree said the vision for the chamber is to put in place a “course for economic prosperity for the businesses in Paris and Lamar County while building a better quality of life for the community as a whole.
“I personally want to thank the members, board and staff of the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce, my family and friends for your unwavering support and encouraging words during this time. I look forward to serving all of you in this capacity and I stand ready to work hard and celebrate our successes as we embark upon this journey to discover new horizons for your chamber,” Moree said.
