Wildcats, Panthers top 10-3A team

No surprises on the All-District 10-3A Baseball Team, as seven of Paris High’s and North Lamar’s nine starters were either on the superlative list or the first team.
Paris High senior pitcher, third baseman Jon Mark Abbey was named Most Valuable Player in 10-3A by the league coaches. Abbey was 5-5 on the mound, 2-0 in district, with a 2.97 ERA and 74 strikouts. At the plate, he batted .402 on the season, including .433 in district.
Wildcat junior first baseman Dylan McEwin was named Offensive Player after batting .500 and knocking in 20 runs in district and .423 and a team-high 45 RBIs during the regular season.
North Lamar junior pitcher Canyon Conley was named Pitcher of the Year after posting an ERA of .97 and finishing with a 5-2 record. Conley had a team-high 45 strikeouts and allowed only five earned runs in 36 innings pitched.
Wildcat sophomore Lance Fields, who was a perfect 9-0 on the mound before losing a game in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs, was named Newcomer of the Year. Fields struck out 69 and had an ERA of 1.83 in 49 innings pitched.
Wildcat coach Bill Sikes and his staff earned Coach of the Year honors.
Paris sophomore shortstop Chase Harvey and senior second baseman Kyle Coston were named to the first team infield, along with North Lamar sophomore Laytner Kennedy. Van Alstyne senior shortstop Jake Willingham, and Bonham sophomore shortstop Dalton Cagle were also selected to the first team infield.
North Lamar junior center fielder Chevis Springer and junior right fielder Ryan White were named to the first team outfield, along with Paris High senior center fielder Kenny Wall. Anna sophomore center fielder Loyd Jacobs and Van Alstyne sophomore center fielder Chance Grayston were also on the first team outfield.
North Lamar senior Cody Sellers was named first-team catcher, along with Van Alstyne junior David Goodenow. Van Alstyne sophomore shortstop, center fielder and pitcher Tanner Neill was named Utility Player, while Bonham’s Justin Flowers was named Designated Hitter.
Making the second team infield were Paris’ Tanner Baker and North Lamar’s David Bozarth in the infield. North Lamar’s Tyler Walston was a second-team outfielder, while North Lamar’s Zach Johnson and Paris’ Reed Bass were named second-team pitchers.
The eighth-ranked Wildcats cruised through the district with a perfect 10-0 record, were were tested only once by district runner-up North Lamar.
Paris’ Jordan Jent was a second-team catcher.
Paris ended the season with a 23-7 record after being swept by Kennedale in the quarterfinal round. North Lamar lost in bi-district to Argyle and ended up 18-11 on the season. Van Alstyne lost in the bi-district round to Prosper.
