Pumpkin Baking contest winners announced

The Blue Ribbon Pumpkin Baking contest at the Festival of Pumpkins was filled with 25 entries from 15 contestants.
The contest was divided into four categories — dessert, main dish, breads and miscellaneous.
“The judges had a very difficult decision but enjoyed the opportunity to sample a delicious variety of pumpkin recipes from wonderful cooks all over Lamar County,” said Becky Semple, tourism director for the Paris Visitors and Convention Council.
Entries were brought to the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce office Friday evening when judging took place. The winners were announced Saturday during the festival.
First and second place winners and participation ribbons were awarded to the following pumpkin chefs.
Desserts:
First place winner, Tonda Sumner and Samantha Cox with Pumpkin n’ Spice Cake with cream cheese icing; second place winner, Carolyn Ladd for her Pumpkin Pecan Pie; participation award goes to Patsy Brownfield for pumpkin cake with cream cheese filling; and participation award goes to Mitzie Price for “Lil’ Pumpkin Heaven” Pumpkin Dessert.
Main Dish:
First place winner, Patsy Davis, Pumpkin Soup; second place winner, Mom Mom’s Café in Downtown Paris, Pumpkin Soup; and Participation Award went to Mom Mom’s Cafe for Pumpkin Enchiladas.
Breads:
First place winner, Sandra Ables, Pumpkin Bread; second place winner, Karen McDowell, Pumpkin Bread with pecans and chocolate chips; and participation award goes to Caryn Resnick, Pumpkin Loaf.
Miscellaneous:
First place winner, Carrie Bethea, Pumpkin Cinnamon rolls with caramel icing; and second place winner, Mom Mom’s Café, Pumpkin Butter Spread.
Judges for the event included Rita Haynes, Ashley Mantoon, Kenny Dority, George Kimbrough and Tim Wadsworth. Also assisting judges were Jackie Blassingame and John Brazile.
