Lamar County voters have an extra day to cast early ballots in the upcoming Nov. 2 general election.
The Lamar County Clerk’s office is scheduled to be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the courthouse annex at 231 Lamar Avenue.
“We’re going to open on Saturday to give people another opportunity to vote early,” Lamar County Clerk Kathy Marlowe said. “We thought people would be in town for the pumpkin festival and this would make it convenient.”
Early voting takes place in the basement of the former post office building outside the temporary county clerk’s office.
Marlowe said she expects a record turnout both at the early voting box and in the election in general.
“We’ve had 1,246 ballots cast in the first three days,” Marlowe said, explaining that 420 voters cast ballots on Monday; 475 Tuesday and 351 Wednesday.
