James Mitchell Laster III, 31, one of three men arrested and indicted in November in connection to an Oct. 30 assault in Reno, accepted a plea bargain and was sentenced today.

Laster, also known as Tray Lasiter, was sentenced to eight years in the Texas Department of Corrections by Sixth District Judge Eric Clifford.

“Mr. Laster accepted a plea bargain this morning to eight years TDC (Texas Department of Corrections),” said County and District Attorney Gary Young. “He pled to count three of the indictment which was aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and he also pled true to the hate crime allegation.”

Young said Laster must serve a minimum of four years before he can be considered for parole.

Laster was indicted on one count of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, hate crime, repeat offender; and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, hate crime, repeat offender.
