Mail truck fire

Paris Firefighters mop up from a fire that burned a Post Office delivery truck on Robin Road Thursday afternoon.

Fire destroyed a Paris Post Office delivery truck Thursday afternoon but the letter carrier was able to save the mail.

Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire in the 3200 block of Robin Road shortly before 2 p.m. to find the mail truck ablaze, according to Paris Fire Marshal/Assistant Chief Dale Maberry.

“The carrier was able to remove the mail from the truck, so no mail was lost,” Maberry said.

Mail will not be delayed because of the fire, according to McKinney Boyd, media representative for the U.S. Postal Service headquarters in Dallas.

“We were fortunate our letter carrier was not injured,” Boyd said. “We have replaced the vehicle and customers should not experience any delay in mail service.”

Boyd said the cause of fire is being investigated.
