Tuesday’s game between the Detroit Eagles and the Celeste Blue Devils started out a neck-and-neck battle. Unfortunately for the team from Red River County, though, it didn’t take too long for Celeste to pull away thanks to its athleticism and outside shooting, and Detroit went on to lose 72-28.

The Detroit Lady Eagles volleyball team hosted the Rivercrest Lady Rebels in a Red River Valley rivalry match on Friday. And though it was Detroit who came away with the straight-sets win — 25-18, 25-15, 25-23 — the match was closer than the scoreboard would have you believe.

The Detroit Eagles utilized a balanced running game on offense and a defense that made key stops when it needed to, and came away with a 1-0 district record Friday, beating the Maud Cardinals 32-26.

It was a tightly-contested affair through much of the match, but the Detroit Lady Eagles volleyball team ultimately came out on top against the Maud Lady Cardinals on Tuesday, beating the district opponent in four sets, winning 26-24, 28-26, 26-28, 25-13.

The Detroit Lady Eagles finished last week on a three-match winning streak, including a pair of straight-set victories claimed on Friday and Saturday.

Week 5 of the high school football season is upon us, and for three of the four Lamar County teams — the Paris Wildcats, the Chisum Mustangs and the Prairiland Patriots — that means district play has officially begun.
